Customer Reviews

Fun, but made for a larger groupI played this game once YEARS ago and remembered I had a lot of fun while playing it.What I forgot, however, was that I played it in a group atmosphere where there were at least 5-7 of us. We played this in a group of 4 and while it WAS fun...You could tell that 1) it might take playing it 1-2 times before you understand the different facets/strategies, 2) would be a lot more fun when playing this in at least a group of 6 or 7.If you ever played the game Mafia (with playing cards) then this game is a lot similar to that game, however, you have special abilities with the different characters (which adds to the fun, but it adds another layer of Rules you have to follow). I still love this game, but I want to play it with a larger group of people before I give it a 5-Star-Review 4Fun group gameThis game can be very short or very very very long. But its so fun. It is absolutely devastating when the sheriff accidentally kills his deputy. My husband also loves the blank cards so he can spice up the game with his own crazy characters. He made a dragon. I hate it. It has 20 life points. Anyway, it's just fun to have a group and try to strategize how to win without giving your role away. We're trying to get all the expansions eventually because this is our #1 game. We play it anytime we're with our friends. 5One of the more addicting card games ever. There is a lot of depth do this game. From the start, it seems a bit complicated with so many different cards. Everything is written in Italian with [sometimes interpretable] English translations. The best way to start when only beginners are playing is with the original game and the first expansion. This includes most of the game play tactics without a daunting amount of cards. You will find that after just one game, most of the game-slowing questions end. Once comfortable (hopefully only a handful of games), expand the game play and include all of the cards. You will hopefully find that your tactics evolve over time as weaknesses in strategy are exposed. The random element of the game prevents stale game play and exploitation, but more than enough of the game is based on the cunning and maneuvering of each individual player that even with a little poor luck, the entertainment value is very high. Due to the interpretive nature of a few of the rules, elements of the game can be altered to allow for added replayability, but for the most part, the logical comprehension of the written rules is enough to never get bored of this game. The Basics: There are "role" cards, and "character" cards. Every player is either a Sheriff, Deputy Sheriff, Outlaw, or Renegade. Each has a different goal, but game play is the same for each. The outlaw is probably the most straight forward character, their goal is to kill the Sheriff. The Sheriff's objective is to eliminate the outlaws and the renegade. The deputies have the same mission as the Sheriff, but should be willing to sacrifice it all to protect the Sheriff. The renegade is the most difficult role to play, they must survive (and see the Sheriff survive) long enough to be the last one alive. All players will also receive a character card which has a perk that is unique to that player.Learning the game is a fairly short process and, as with all the best games, mastering it will take a lot of experience. It can be fun for the whole family; while I would recommend ages 14+, someone as young as 10 could probably understand the concepts and play well. 5Great value for a great game. This is a very fun game and this set is a great value considering how many cards you end up with. You can start with the standard game and introduce other expansions later to keep it interesting or start with everything and have countless variations of game play (depending on which characters you use)As for playability, this is a good cross between action and sleuthing. Try to figure out who's with you and who's against you and try to strategically eliminate the other players based on your theories. Of course this is deduced from their actions which can be very misleading, especially if they are wrong about their own guesses. The "bullet" is neat but is over sized for the number of cards you end up with and there's no room for other expansions without modifying the card holder. I'd love to see this made with an expandable card cradle but it's a great came so I can live with it. 4Doesn't have mats or tokens, but still playable.I like Bang! a fair bit and bought this to have a bunch of the expansions. I didn't read the description and so you'll find that there's no bullet tokens (for life points) and there's no player mats. Those are REALLY helpful when playing with new players so it was disappointing not to have those. The rules are reasonably well-written but the "play two" symbol easily gets confused with the "draw a card" symbol.A good game for a larger crowd... when the sheriff isn't flanked by outlaws and stands a chance. 4Awesome GamePurchased this game and the remaining expansions after quite a bit of research. Just played it for the first time with my family (4 players) and I love it. It offers unique dynamics and interesting strategy. I think it will become a favorite. It's pretty easy to learn - one game combined with instruction reference will have you all set. We played with the base game + Dodge City only at first. We'll tack on more expansions as we become more comfortable with it.One thing though, the bullet case is really a piece of crap. While it looks neat, it's large, annoying to close/open, the plastic insert can easily pop out and you have to remove the insert & figure out a new layout if you want to store all of the add-ons in it. If it were hinged on one side or the top unscrewed from the rest of the tube it would work much better. Right now I have this and all addons stored in the Gold Rush box - they all easily fit in there. Will probably get a small wood box to store them in.I'd suggest getting all of the decks individually as they cost less but I believe this version includes a couple bonus cards that are not in the individual packs. 5Great game with 2 expansion packs includedI like this game it's a great game to play with 5-7 people (with the expansion, 8). The bullet shaped box just gives it a more unique look you also get a sheriff's star (plastic) and the pack is just better in English (although I know the original is Italian and spaghetti western inspired). I like how the volcanic is an ability and not a gun and how you mark lives on the back of a character card instead of flimsy little carton bullets. Several years in this is still a fun game to play even the base game without the expansions. 5Un grande gioco di Party! (A Great Party Game)This is an awesome game. I played it recently with a group of friends and I knew afterwards that I HAD to have it. It is very reminiscent of a game I used to play back in high school and college with my buddies called MAFIA, except this game uses cards and rules to give the game more of a structure, which I like. The game is an old Western Card game, which strangely, for a reason I have yet to determine, is written in Italian (don't worry, there are also English captions underneath the Italian). It plays best in medium-large groups, ideally 5-7 people, but we've played with groups as large as 12 before. Upon setup, each player is secretly assigned one of 4 roles: the Sheriff, an Outlaw, a Deputy, or a Renegade, and each player's objective in the game depends on the role they have been assigned: - Sheriff is trying to kill the Outlaws and Renegades - The Outlaws are trying to kill the Sheriff - The Deputies are trying to protect the Sheriff - The Renegades are trying to be the last one standing with the Sheriff, and then kill him one vs one.The only person who's role is known is the Sheriff, who reveals it at the beginning of the game. As the game progresses, you try to figure out who is who around you, and use weapons, various ability cards, and other items to try to accomplish your objective. The game ends with either the Sheriff dies, or the Outlaws are all killed. If any of that sounds confusing, don't worry, once you play the game once or twice it becomes second nature.Pros: - Tons of fun. This has become our go-to game over the past month. People will literally text me during the day while I am at work asking when the next time we are going to "BANG" (their words, not mine). - Speaking of which, lots of potential for innuendos and "thats what she said" jokes. - This particular packaging includes A LOT- the original game, the first expansion (High Noon), the second expansion (Dodge City), and the third expansion (A Fistful of Cards). - Comes in a cool metal bullet-shaped case.Cons: - Can be a little complicated for newbies, especially with the expansion packs (you have the option to play without them, however) - Games can take quite a while, depending on the size and experience level of the group. I've had games of 8+ take over 2 hours. However, on the flip side, I've had games end in under 30 minutes. - It is an elimination game, which means that when someone is killed, they have to sit and watch until the game is over (with the exception of a few cards in the expansions which can bring dead players back to life). Can be frustrating for people if you have a large group and they die early in the game as this means they will be sitting and watching for a good 30 minutes or longer. All in all, this is definitely money worth spending.I would definitely recommend this to a friend (and have). 5Long lasting fun! This game is great! I've spent countless hours since purchasing. haven't even cracked open the expansions. We've been playing with the base cards in this pack. Including the expansion would also allow an 8th player. There's always someone that needs to learn. We never needed to add an 8th player because of that. If the base game ever gets boring, I'll start including the expansion.I'm knocking one star off because there are definitely some areas of improvement. The instruction manual should include more information about edge cases. There have been many times where we run into a spot in the game that we don't know how to handle. We usually come to a mutual agreement, but it would be easier if the instructions included explanations. The packaging could also be improved. A better designed interior to support holding more expansions would be great. I don't even store the cards in the bullet any more. I put them in ziplock baggies.Overall, it's a fun game. My family and friends have been asking where to purchase this. I was eager to point them to Amazon. 4Great game for large groupsThis game is a blast to play in large groups. The comparison I most hear about for it is to Mafia. The larger the group, the more confusing and fun the game gets. Each player is given a role. You are either the good guys, the bad guys, or the renegade. No one tells anyone else what their role is, except for the Sheriff. The Sheriff shows everyone his card. From there, madness ensues. The bad guys try to kill the Sheriff, the good guys try and kill the bad guys, and the renegade adds to the confusion, by playing either side, or trying to balance the fight. The expansions are decent, and allow more people to play. The base game is for up to 7 players, but the expansion makes it 8. They add more cards and a little more strategy to the game. That being said, I think you will be perfectly happy with the base game. Finding people that understand the rules enough to play the base game alone is hard enough, finding 8 people with a good enough understanding of the rules to add an expansion or two on top can be difficult.Speaking of the rules, they are crazy. The game was originally Italian, and the translation to English was a little rough. Every other game a rule question comes up that isn't covered in the manual. Luckily there is a good community online, and I've found that any time I have a question I can just google it and get the answer. There is a lot of strategy to the game, and especially a lot of cases that a good player can use the rules to their advantage.Overall, this game is a blast and great for any good sized group of people (5+ players). Under 5 people can be a little boring because it only takes a round to figure out who is who. My only gripe with the game is that once you're dead, you're dead. I've killed people on the first turn, and then had the game go on 45 minutes after that. It can get a little boring for the players that die early on. This was fixed in "Samurai Sword", which is basically Bang! but with a Japanese Samurai theme. 5
