Customer Reviews

A lot of fun for budding gear headsBought this for my 4yo son who is absolutely obsessed with cars. It has a good amount of detail and lots of parts to take off and fix. Some things, such as the headlights and ignition, are a little tricky to remove and "repair" but overall is pretty appropriate for his age. The Hotwheels-type ramp is pretty much a throwaway item. The hood supports are flimsy, as others have said. Overall it has held up to about 20 dismantle-repair cycles without an issue. 4Hours of entertainmentMy grandson loves this! He won't quit playing with it. To the people who say it only works once, the idea is to fix it. There's little buttons you push to "break" it and also to "fix" it.The only thing is the direction said it required 6 AAA batteries, but it really needed 8. There are four places that require two each. But it is definitely hours and hours of entertainment! 5Great Toy with Minor OversightsIt's a great toy. My son and I have had a lot of fun taking it apart and putting it back together. A good toy for gearheads looking for a way to share their passion with their young child without worrying they are going to get themselves hurt. While a cool and fun toy, I did find some issues with it:The hood is difficult to wrangle with and doesn't need the supports to hold it up. Those hood supports are also very easily bent. The engine block is really cool, but the spark plugs keep the hood from closing all the way and the pipes sometimes get in the way of the hood closing. The jacks on the back of the car often pop out to the point where me, my wife, nor my son have bothered putting them back on. The steering wheel comes out really easily so if your kid wants to steer it, they may find it difficult to keep the steering wheel in and steer. Those are just minor design oversights. The whole package is fun and engaging and I am glad I got it from mys...I mean him. Would recommend to others. 4The parts are big enough that she can easily work with them but small enough that they'll encourage ...My 3yo daughter loves this toy! The parts are big enough that she can easily work with them but small enough that they'll encourage her to work on her fine motor skills. Some of the pre-assembled parts (the body & the hood) don't line up quite right so that makes other things not fit in the manner that they should. Nothing major, but noticeable enough that it's disappointing to see them on a toy in this price range. 4Ok, but not greatThis toy "could" be really wonderful but some of the pieces are very cheap and don't connect firmly. Regardless, my three year old son loves this. He has several cars and airplanes that can be taken apart and put back together, on his own. I was hoping this toy would provide the same experience but it's very parent-interactive and some pieces just won't stay in place. Probably better for the 4-5 age group but needs some updating to be more accurate and sturdy... 3Not the greatest qualityWe really wanted to love this car. My husband and I were as excited to play with it as our son was. Once we got it out of the box we started seeing areas where the company went cheap on production. The hinges for the hood are really cheap and weak. It was hard trying to explain to the kids you can t lift the hood all the way or else it will break off. So we just took the hood off altogether to keep from them snapping off. A spark plug fell apart after the first use. And the ramp for matchbox cars does not stay put and falls apart at its hinge. Honestly the ramp is kind of a random part to this and doesn t make much sense why the car has it. My son hasn t used the ramp part at all. There is no storage part for the ramp which is unfortunate. The headers on the top come off very easily as all they do is just sit in a somewhat snug hole on top. I like how he headlights have to be taken out to be fixed and the brakes pads behind the tires is a nice touch. The sound effects for the horn and the ignition are a plus. There are definitely some improvements that need to be made to this and I m hesitant on really recommending this to anyone. If the price was lower then I would probably recommend it then since the quality of the product would better match the price. 3GREAT TOY..HEADLIGHTS NOT WORKING IS PART OF THE DESIGN!!This is an awesome toy! I think that I may like it more than my son does...lol.The only thing was that as soon as it came out of the box the headlights didn't work, BUT that is part of the design. There is a red button next to the headlight bulb. By pressing the button it disables the headlight. Now you have to take the headlight out and press a small metal button on the side. Now, the headlight works again. Reinstall and there ya go. If the red button gets pressed again then the process is repeated. I hope this helps because according to other reviews I thought the headlights were broken, but they are not. Another feature it has is that the ignition switch makes a sound like the engine is running good then, by pressing the red triangle on it the engine sounds strange. Just remove the ignition and press the grey button. Now the ignition will go back to sounding normal. 5Really cool toyNot sure why this gets knocked on so badly from some. Only shortcoming I found was the hood support struts. They just get in the way and don't hold the hood up. I pulled them off and problem solved. There are a lot of pieces to take apart, some harder than others. That's a good thing since it will take them a very long time to master it. Looks to be lots of fun with this in our future.Update 2 months later- This thing is great! No quality issues at this point with regular use. Here some tips-The steering wheel does snap in and stays in securely. It just takes a lot of force. We had the same issue with it constantly coming off until I really went at it a few weeks ago.Lights- They were always getting "broken" so we'd have to take them out, hit the little button to reset them and then 2 minutes later the red button would have been pushed and had to do it over again. A little kid sees a red button and they just want to push it. FIX- packing tape over the inner reset button. Now the red button shuts them off but you only need to press the headlight and they're back on! 4Overpriced and no instructions in EnglishIt's pretty difficult to put something together when there are several languages for the instructions but English isn't one of them. We had to look at the book of different activities you can do with the toy to figure out where some of the parts went or use the box. I didn't even know what some of the parts were but the book helped. Same with the stickers; no instructions. I had to look at the box to see where the stickers went. You also need 8 AAA batteries; 2 for each headlight (lights turn on), 2 for the steering wheel for the horn to honk and 2 for the ignition (makes starting sounds). However, if I hadn't of read the description and reviews I wouldn't have known where to look to put batteries as there are no instructions telling you you need batteries or where they go. Also, the key isn't a regular looking key. There is a tiny knob on the end that you have to put in the tiny hole for the ignition. I don't think a child could figure that out. I haven't been able to get the headlights to work so I may have to send the toy back. Also there is a button near the ignition. I'm not sure what that is for. You push it in but it doesn't do anything. Apparently there are "car jacks" on the back of the toy which I found by accident. They are yellow rods that go up and down and "jack" the toy up off the ground in the back. Again, didn't know as there are no instructions in English! The hot wheel type track is very cheap super thin plastic. Not your hot wheel brand quality of track. The track has two prongs that you stick into slots on the back of the toy. I found that out by accident too. The steering wheel comes off really easy. There's nothing to lock it in place. The pipes sticking out of the engine make it hard to close the hood down. You have to move them to get the hood down. I think the toy is a cute concept but way overpriced and has some issues with design. There are several things you can take apart and screw back on. I read some of the reviews about the headlights so I will try their suggestions. I'll be sending it back if I can't get everything to work on it.Update: After putting another set of batteries in the headlights and playing with them I have found that you push in on the headlight itself as it is actually a button to turn on the light. To shut the headlight off you hit the red button next to the head light. Instructions in English would really be beneficial. Without them is a trial and error. 3My kids seem to love it, even though they only got to watch ...A quick read of the reviews and you can tell who is mechanically inclined and who isn't. Apparently some parents didn't understand the concept of this toy is to teach kids trouble shooting and repair. The headlights are only suppose to work one time, then, once turned off, you must take it apart and "repair" (reset) the "broken" light. Same is true of the ignition, as if you hit the triangle, the engine will turn over, but not start.Yes, the plastic is a bit flimsy, but it has to be. This isn't meant to be precision engineering where everything aligns perfectly. It is meant to be crude enough, and built with plenty of tolerance, to allow a young child to reassemble everything, sometimes requiring parts to flex a little to line up the holes. My kids seem to love it, even though they only got to watch me assemble it for the first time tonight. I wanted to make sure I knew how everything works and goes together prior to them digging in. 5
